This qualification is for people who work with or look after children, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations.

The aim of the qualification is to enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency situations in a school environment.

Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in situations that can arise when looking after children.

Intended audience

This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to children (including babies) when dealing with an emergency situation.

Note: This qualification does not fulfil Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide).

Structure of the qualification

This qualification comprises 1 mandatory unit with 3 guided learning hours.

Learners must complete all assessments to successfully to achieve the Basic First Aid for Schools qualification.

Learner outcomes

The Basic First Aid for Schools has one unit that Learners are required to complete in order to achieve the qualification.

Basic First Aid for Schools

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
  • Be able to provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for a casualty who has a foreign body airway obstruction.
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with wounds and bleeding.
  • Be able to manage a casualty with a minor injury.
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child with anaphylaxis.
  • Understand the consequences of head injuries in children.
  • Understand how to provide first aid to a child with injuries to bones, joints and muscles.

 

 Course cost

The Basic First Aid for Schools course is delivered in-house for clients across the UK and globally at a time to suit you. The cost of this, inclusive of learner resources, handouts, Paediatric First Aid Made Easy books and certificates*, is from just £360.00 for up to 12 people. 

This can be delivered to larger groups  from as little as £15.00 per person.

A certificate valid for 3 years is issued by Simply First Aid.
