This qualification is for people who work with or look after children, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations.

The aim of the qualification is to enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations.

Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in situations that can arise when looking after children.

Intended audience

This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to children (including babies) when dealing with an emergency situation.

Note: This qualification does not fulfil Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide).

Structure of the qualification

This qualification comprises 1 mandatory unit with a total value of 1 credit and 10 guided learning hours (GLH)*.

*GLH are a guide to the estimated hours an average Learner would study to gain the unit. This does not have to be face-to-face instructional time and can include self-directed study at home, such as reading course hand outs and further self-study.

Learners must complete all assessments to successfully to achieve the QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (QCF) qualification.

Learner outcomes

The QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (QCF) has one unit that Learners are required to complete in order to achieve the qualification.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

  • Understand the role & responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction.
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock.
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child with anaphylaxis.

 Course cost

The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is delivered in-house for clients across the UK and globally at a time to suit you. The cost of this, inclusive of learner resources, handouts, Paediatric First Aid Made Easy books and certificates*, is from just £600.00 for up to 12 people. 

A certificate valid for 3 years is issued by Simply First Aid*.

*Simply First Aid is approved to deliver qualifications listed on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). If you would like QCF certification, this is available at an additional cost.
