Did you know that 12 young people a week lose their lives to sudden cardiac arrest according to official statistics published by the government?
The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage as laid out in the Practical Guidance document, and helps to prepare you in dealing with the devastating sudden cardiac arrest that can occur.
This qualification is for people who work with or look after children, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations, illnesses, injuries and emergencies.
The aim of the qualification is to enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of:
- Paediatric first aid situations
- Paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies
Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in situations that can arise when looking after children.

Note: This qualification fulfils Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide).
Structure of the qualification
This qualification comprises 2 mandatory units with a total value of 3 credits and 22 guided learning hours (GLH)*.

Learners must complete both units successfully to achieve the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid qualification.
All practical and written assessments must be passed to gain the qualification.
The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid has two units that Learners are required to complete in order to achieve the qualification.
