Paediatric first aid – Foundation
The Paediatric First Aid foundation is a 6 hour courses meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage as laid out in the Practical Guidance document.
This training is aimed at: nursery schools; schools; child minders; nannies; and early years’ centres.
*Any business or charity needing to comply with Ofsted will probably require the full 12 hour course.
At the end of this 6 hour course the candidate will demonstrate knowledge of:
- Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Treating an unconscious casualty (including seizure)
- Choking
- Wounds and bleeding
- Shock
- Eye injuries
- Preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions and demonstrate the use of available equipment
- Fractures
- Sprains and strains
- Spinal injuries
- Chest injuries
- Severe burns and scalds
- Bites and stings
- Poisoning
- Anaphylaxis
- Meningitis
- Effects of temperature extremes
- Febrile convulsions
- Care for children who become unwell until they can be collected by parents. .
- Know the appropriate system for administering medication.
Assessment of the Paediatric First Aid course is carried out by the tutor on an ongoing basis. The final assessment will include acting safely, promptly and effectively in managing: an unconscious child or baby; a non breathing child or baby (to include action for vomiting); and a child or baby with wounds and bleeding.
A certificate valid for 3 years is issued by Simply First Aid.
