Why do I need this?

The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with life threatening emergencies. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective basic life support in emergency situations.


Who is it for?

This course is suitable for anyone wanting to be prepared to manage a life threatening emergency situation if it arises. Doctors, dentists, healthcare professionals and people from all walks of life.

What is involved?

This three hour Basic Life Support course is delivered in a dynamic, practical and learner centred way to help you get the most out of your training.

Learners are encouraged to wear clothing that is comfortable and appropriate for the practical nature of the course. You will be performing many of the first aid techniques on other learners on the floor of the classroom.

As we progress through the course you will complete a number of practical assessments.

What will I Learn?

By the end of this course you will be able to demonstrate and show an understanding of:

  • How to assess an incident using a stepwise (ABCDE) approach

  • How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking.

  • How to manage a casualty who is not breathing normally.

  • The safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

  • The safe use of airway adjuncts and medical oxygen.

  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.

What will I achieve?

A certificate of attendance can be issued if required for CPD purposes
