“For teams who regularly see children and infants in their practice”
It is a common expectation that healthcare staff will have sufficient knowledge and skills to be able to recognise and respond to signs of clinical deterioration.
Course Overview
BLS in Clinical Practice builds on core CPR and AED skills to provide a broader refresher for healthcare teams working in a clinical environment.
In addition to adult CPR and AED use, participants practise the management of choking and develop practical skills in basic airway management, including use of an oropharyngeal airway and bag-valve-mask ventilation.
The course is designed for teams who want their BLS training to reflect the equipment, responsibilities and teamwork involved in responding to an emergency within a clinical setting.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants should be able to:
Recognise and respond appropriately to adult and paediatric cardiac arrest.
Perform effective adult and paediatric CPR.
Use an AED safely and effectively.
Coordinate CPR and defibrillation within a clinical team.
Recognise the importance of early emergency activation and continued resuscitation.
Demonstrate appropriate practical BLS skills in simulated scenarios.
Learner Assessment
There is 1 method used to assess the Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support programme.
Practical assessment - this is observed by the Trainer throughout the course, with the results of each key skill being recorded on the Practical Assessment Papers provided.
The Practical Assessment Papers are:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Practical Assessment - Adults
