Course Overview

BLS in Clinical Practice builds on core CPR and AED skills to provide a broader refresher for healthcare teams working in a clinical environment.

In addition to adult CPR and AED use, participants practise the management of choking and develop practical skills in basic airway management, including the use of an oropharyngeal airway and bag-valve-mask ventilation.

The course is designed for teams who want their BLS training to reflect the equipment, responsibilities and teamwork involved in responding to an emergency within a clinical setting.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

• Recognise and respond appropriately to adult cardiac arrest.

• Perform effective adult CPR.

• Use an AED safely and effectively.

• Recognise and manage choking.

• Demonstrate appropriate use of an oropharyngeal airway.

• Demonstrate basic bag-valve-mask ventilation.

• Work effectively as part of a clinical resuscitation team.

• Apply these skills effectively within practical clinical emergency scenarios.

Learner Assessment

There is 1 method used to assess the Basic Life Support programme.

Learners are assessed throughout the course through direct observation of practical skills. The trainer records performance against the key skills covered during the session and provides feedback and opportunities for further practice where required.
