FREC 3 equips learners with the clinical knowledge and practical skills to assess, manage and monitor casualties presenting with a wide range of medical emergencies and trauma in out-of-hospital settings. Who is this course for?
Designed for those working as professional first responders in event medicine, sports medicine, occupational health and pre-hospital care settings. It is the nationally recognised standard for medical cover providers and is accepted by event insurers, sports governing bodies and NHS ambulance services as demonstrating clinical competency beyond standard first aid.
What you'll cover
Scene assessment and personal safety
Airway management including adjuncts (OPA/NPA)
Management of cardiac arrest (adult, child and infant)
Management of anaphylaxis including adrenaline IM injection
Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries
Chest injuries and tension pneumothorax recognition
Medical emergencies: seizures, stroke, diabetic emergencies, asthma, COPD, chest pain
Paediatric patient assessment and management
Safe handover to ambulance services
Primary and secondary patient survey
Oxygen therapy and administration
AED use
Trauma management — haemorrhage control, wound care
Spinal injury management
Burns management
Obstetric emergencies
Patient monitoring, vital signs and documentation
Assessment
Multiple written assessments and practical skills assessments, observed and marked against Qualsafe criteria. Learners must achieve a pass in all components.
Certification
Successful learners receive a personalised Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) e-Certificate. The qualification is Ofqual regulated and widely accepted by event insurers, sports governing bodies and pre-hospital care employers. Printed certificates available at additional cost.
